If you’re looking for a pair of wireless earbuds that offer a lot without spending a small fortune then the TOZO NC9 Upgraded versions are seriously worth considering.
On first impression the earbuds look and feel top quality, and whilst they are not trying to compete directly with the other high-end earbuds out there they do have a surprising amount of features for what the price tag suggests. Combining this with good sound and comfort, for us, the biggest question is very simple, are they good value for the price?

Sound Quality
The sound is one of the main reasons we like the NC9’s They have full sound with a noticeable amount clarity even on a slightly higher volume, which makes music enjoyable rather than scratchy. If you like some weight behind your music, these earbuds deliver it with plenty of base that packs a punch while vocals remain clear enough to enjoy, which is quite impressive considering the price point. Comparing these to similar ones on the market, they sound pretty awesome, you would naturally think they cost a lot more.
They are not audiophile earbuds by any means, however if we were comparing them with much more expensive models purely on sound detail and accuracy, they wouldn’t be far off. For everyday listening, we think the sound is considerably better than those at competitive pricing if not more.
The TOZO NC9’s are packed full of features, and through the supporting app it gives us plenty of ways to change the sound. There are 32 EQ presets, along with the ability to create our own EQ settings. That means we can make the sound more bass heavy, bring out vocals or adjust it towards whatever type of music we prefer. TOZO also has an EQ community where additional settings can be shared. Impressively though are those little features that many would need a subscription for, like the instant language translator, part of the NC9’s sound experience. If you’re lucky enough to have a friend who speaks a different language then these can translate what they saying, in real time. Impressive and something you wouldn’t necessarily find on a pair of earbuds at this level.

Noise Cancelling is another industry standard feature which deserves some form of attention here. The NC9 have hybrid active noise cancellation with up to 45dB of advertised noise reduction, although these are not going to match the very best premium earbuds, for this price it does the job, and does it well.
That’s also a lot of flexibility with these earbuds, such as receiving calls, voice recording, simultaneous interpreting and the AI chat. The NC9’s use six microphones with ENC noise reduction, which helps when you’re making a call or using the earbuds for voice functions. For normal calls, we think they’re perfectly usable. They aren’t going to replace a dedicated headset, and in particularly noisy or windy conditions the microphone performance can suffer slightly, but for everyday calls they do the job.
There is also a low latency gaming mode, which helps keep audio and video better synchronised when playing games or watching content.
Battery life is another area where the NC9’s perform extremely well. TOZO quotes up to 14 hours from the earbuds with ANC switched off, around 10 hours with ANC on, and roughly 59 hours of total listening time using the charging case. The charging case also has an LED display showing the battery level, which is one of those cool feature that is really useful. The case is compact enough to carry around, and feels pretty solid too.
The NC9’s also have an IPX8 water resistance rating, which for us was quite surprising and another detail which makes these very well suited to everyday situations such as rain, sweat and exercise. We obviously don’t need to go looking for excuses to dunk our earbuds in water, but the extra protection is reassuring.
The TOZO NC9’s Upgraded versions are brilliant for the money in our opinion. The sound quality is great with good amount of bass when needed, They’re comfortable and fit securely without irritation and the noise cancellation is excellent. The translation and AI functions are particularly a nice bonus, obviously not our main reason we would buy the NC9’s, however, they are useful extras that make them feel considerably more advanced than their price suggests.
For around £30 to £40 we think that the Tozo NC9’s are an excellent choice for those who love music with good clear sound, and packed full of features. These definitely exceeded our expectations.
Our Verdict: 🍌🍌🍌🍌 out of 5
They’re not quite perfect. But for the price, they’re bloody good earbuds.

Our test showed that on the highest setting, wether outdoors or in a loud room these did not spoil our overall listening experience, in fact and dare we say this, there was hardly any noise filtering in! The feature itself can be activated via touch gestures on the earbud or through the app which come in a variety of choices, however choosing the option we tested will drain the battery much faster, as to be expected.

Comfort and fit is another strong point, since the NC9’s have slightly chunky design compared with some premium earbuds, they do fit quite snug, and very comfortable once place in the ear.
There are multiple sizes of ear tips supplied, which on our testing showed that they performed pretty well, even on harsh movements. Obviously, everyone’s ears are different, so what feels perfect for one person might not work as well for another.

What could be better?
The NC9’s are not perfect by any means, and there are a few compromises that let them down slightly.
One thing they don’t have is multipoint connectivity, so they can’t seamlessly maintain connections to two devices at the same time via Bluetooth. That’s something we increasingly see on more expensive earbuds, and it would have been a welcome addition here.

The sound is also clearly tuned for enjoyment rather than absolute accuracy. The bass is our favourite thing about them, but people looking for a very neutral or highly detailed sound may want something different. Finally, the touch controls can take a little getting used to. There are quite a few different gestures, and because the touch sensitive surfaces are really responsive, it’s possible to activate something accidentally while adjusting an earbud.
None of these issues are deal breakers really, just little compromises that come with buying earbuds at this price point.
